Chelsea and Manchester City are both keen on signing Real Madrid defender Pepe, according to Spanish journalist Guillem Balague. Chelsea have been linked with the centre-back for some time, with manager Andre Villas-Boas believed to have been keen on signing the 28-year-old last summer. Pepe signed a new deal at the Bernabeu last year, but reports in Spain last week suggested that the Spanish giants are prepared to listen to offers for him as a result of his stamp on Lionel Messi during the first leg of their Copa Del Rey quarter-final clash with rivals Barcelona earlier this month. Although he has since been cleared of any wrongdoing by the Spanish Football Federation, Real president Florentino Perez is *said to be growing increasingly tired of misdemeanours by the player. And according to Balague, the Portugal international has now been put up for sale. Speaking to Sky Sports News on Tuesday, the pundit stated that he believed Manchester City were also keen on signing Pepe and that Real Madrid are prepared to let him move to the Premier League - providing they are able to recoup the €30million they paid Porto for him in 2007. Portuguese newspaper A Bola earlier this week reported that Madrid are open to letting Pepe join Chelsea providing they get Blues defender David Luiz as part of the deal. Pepe's current contract is worth around £3.5million a year, a sum that both Chelsea and Man City would comfortably be able to at least match.
